Career Fair Week

Texas A &M International University and the Office of Career Fairs hosted the 2012 Business & Hospitality Career Fair from February 29 to March 6. The week long fair provided students and alumni information about the process whenever looking for an internship or a job. Events took place in the Student Center facilities.

 

The Bridge had the opportunity to talk with the Director of Employer Relations, Laura Martinez, "I encourage students and alumni who might change careers or need assistance for their resume or whatever it might be needing to visit the Office of Careers Services... services are offered for life" said Martinez.

 

Career Fair Prep Days was for TAMIU students  and alumni who needed help with resume, interviewing skills, or any other question about how to prepare yourself for job hunting. Candidates hadthe opportunity to ask for assistance to the Office of Career's staff during March 1 and 2 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at SC 114. Walk ins were welcome. During March 5th, partnered with the School of Business, Case Study presentations  were conducted  in Business classes by employers such as Target, BBVA Compass and Verizon Wireless for the first time this year. Studentswere given a real world case scenario to solve it and a week later the students came back to offer possible solutions to the employer. The case study presentations gave the  students the knowledge up to what to do whenever a company confronts a problem, and the experience acquired will help them for future occasions.

 

The Career Fair week  concluded with the Job Fair and with a special participation of  Ambassador Ronald K. McMullen, Diplomat in Residence at University of Texas at Austin.  From national to local, a wide variety of companies visited TAMIU to offer job opportunities to students and alumni. Employers  such as  Department of Homeland Security,Entravision, IBC, HEB and Wells Fargo were present  to hire university students and to answer questions the student might have.This fair took place in the Student Center first and second floor from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Business attire was required. Simultaneously, Ambassador McMullen, promoted fellowships and internships offer by the Department of State. Presentations were at the SC Ballroom at 1:30 p.m., Bullock Hall 118 at 4:30 p.m. and Western Hemisphere Trade Center 103 at 6 p.m.
